1000 Year Bavarian Folk Festival...

Head over to Swabia, around 1.5 hours from Karma Bavaria, for the annual Spring Augsburger Plaärrer folk festival between 21 April - 05 May. Set in the pretty little town of Augsburg, the festival dates back 1000 years and is a rich repository of Bavarian culture - including parades, traditional games & rides, local cuisines and of course locally brewed beer!

Easter Like You’ve Never Experienced It in Agios Nikolaos, Crete...

Easter is a more important festival than Christmas in Greece and a wonderful time to visit. In Agios Nikolaos, Crete, every church is covered in traditional decorations, elaborate processions take place on Good Friday while Saturday is all about celebration and feasting, with the streets thronging with revellers. A truly carnivalesque experience!

Classical Music Festival in Florence…

Destination Of The Month

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND’S NORTHERN CAPITAL IS COOL IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE...

Chiang Mai nestles in the cooler climes of Thailand’s mountainous north - the perfect counterpoint to Bangkok’s swelter and bustle. It is also culturally very different from the Thai capital - from its culinary tradition - the most prominent being lanna - characterised by sticky rice and a wide variety of chili pastes, soups and minced meats - to its prevalence of temples - more than 300 in total. Above all, it feels chilled, with just the right combination of contemporary and traditional offerings to engage visitors.

A great place to start when exploring Chiang Mai is with its temples, with their iconic golden chedi bell towers and tiered roofs. Most temples are free to visit and Wat Chiang Man, Wat Lok Moli and Wat Umong are all essential stop offs on your Chiang Mai holiday. If you want to get a bit more involved, you can learn Buddhist meditation every monday at 3pm at Wat Sri Gerd.

The banks of the Ping River which wends its way through Chiang Mai are a favourite gathering ground for locals and you’ll find market stalls, elaborate bridges and all the colour of Chiang Mai life in its vicinity. Not to mention our very own Karma Chang Resort, with its beautifully appointed rooms featuring traditional thai artworks and furnishings!

North Thailand is home to a variety of unique ethnic groups - the so called ‘hill tribes’ that include the Hmong, Karen, Akhu and Lasu who migrated here over hundreds of years. The free Hill Tribe Museum is a great place to learn more about their cultures and history, before heading into the mountains to experience them directly.

Set on the hills overlooking Chiang Mai, Karma Royal Boat Lagoon is the perfect gateway both to the city and for hiking excursions and cultural visits to nearby Hmong villages. And be sure to visit the Doi Suthep national park - a stunning tract of protected mountain and jungle ecosystems around an hour from Chiang Mai. Both effortlessly laid back and endlessly fascinating, Chiang Mai is among southeast Asia’s most uniquely satisfying destinations to visit.

Whether your preference is fiction or fact, easy reading or deep dives into local culture and history, we have it covered. Each collection combines a broad selection of literary fiction, gripping contemporary reads, and classic novels, including works by prominent local authors. You’ll also find non-fiction works that focus on what makes the destination unique and special: there’s a satisfying literary experience for every guest at Karma Resorts.

Including literature that reflects the locale in some ways really adds to the destination experience, according to Ultimate Library founder Philip Blackwell. So at Karma Minoan for example, readers can immerse themselves in a lovely edition of Homer’s Odyssey, then “look up from the pages of Odysseus’ story and out across Homer’s ‘wine dark sea’ to the very islands he ventures between.”

Members will find well stocked libraries at most of our resorts - which means you can be assured of finding something suitable to lose yourself in without having to bring it with you from home!
